At Elian’s we are committed to quality education. Our Secondary stage is aimed at young people between the ages of 11 and 16. The 13 to 14 age range in particular is a crucial stage in which students begin to consolidate and develop, not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. This is the time when they often need the most support from us, so here is what we offer at Elian’s British School of La Nucía in Year 9 and Year 10 (students aged between 13 and 15 years old):
Methodology focused on motivation
Motivation is a crucial aspect which we take into account at every educational stage. We consider it an essential ingredient in the education of all our young people.
However, we are aware that different people are motivated by different things. For this reason, our educators take into account the pupils’ varying preferences and tastes. As a result, consideration of their individual interests and abilities is central when it comes to guiding and teaching them.
There is no single magic formula that motivates all people in the same way, and that’s why we try to find what inspires each student and drives them to become the person they want to be.
What are the potential difficulties of the adolescent stage?
Adolescence is a period that generally occurs between the ages of 10 and 19. It is the essential progression towards adulthood, but it also has its own value. Adolescence offers a great number of learning possibilities and opportunities to build strength and resilience. Our role as an educational centre is to provide the right environment for each pupil to lay a good foundation for their future, discover their potential, and increase their knowledge and skills.
Young people aged 13 and 14 are in what is known as early and middle adolescence respectively. The most common school-related problems that affect this group are:
- Fluctuating academic performance
- Truancy
- Fear of going to school
At Elian’s British School of La Nucía we consider parents to be a fundamental pillar of the educational process, whose engagement with their child’s schooling plays a vital role in preventing these situations developing. We believe continual communication with parents is of paramount importance, enabling us to work hand in hand to avoid issues that interfere with the education and development of the child.
Personalised attention, which sets us apart.
We firmly believe that individual attention is the key to the educational success of our students. We take care to detect the needs and strengths of young people at an early stage, as well as any difficulties, so we can guide them appropriately and give them what they need. Although the academic subjects are largely taught in the same way to all students, teachers take care to differentiate activities according to pupils’ individual abilities.
English immersion that prepares them for the future. Quality education
In Year 9 and Year 10, our students study the curricular subjects of the British system, together with the core requirements of the Spanish curriculum, such as Language, Literature, Valencian, Geography and History. This combination offers young people a wealth of benefits, providing them with a more rounded education, a set of complementary skills, and a wider range of future options. In addition, they will achieve secondary qualifications covering both the British and Spanish curricula.
Elian’s: IB candidate school (DIPLOMA)
While we continue to be proud of our identity as a British school, Elian’s is also a candidate to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, with the intention of incorporating the IB Diploma Programme in 2023-2024. This will expand our global approach to education for pupils in their baccalaureate years (sixth form).
At Elian’s, we are constantly exploring the most innovative ways to use digital technology, which offers cutting-edge forms of communication, and exciting opportunities for collaborations between pupils, teachers and families. Digitalisation also provides a platform to develop an up-to-date skillset, while allowing for extra forms of differentiation (catering to individuals’ diverse needs). What’s more, we are using it to introduce progressive evaluation methods, which integrate with real-world environments of work and training.
As part of our multidisciplinary approach, we embrace technology, art and sport. We value the development of creativity, self-esteem and the capacity for personal expression in all its various forms. Discovery and research are part of a learning environment in which our students are encouraged to design their own solutions to the challenges they encounter.
