Our personalised guidance programme: the key to a pupil’s all-round development

programa de orientacion

The integral development of the student is our hallmark and one of our main tools to achieve this is the personalised guidance programme.

At Elian’s British School of La Nucía our aims are not only to help students acquire the technical and cognitive skills necessary to guide their professional future, but also to help them become socially successful.

What does the personalised guidance programme consist of?

This programme is led by our guidance counsellor whose role is to contribute to the overall development of those pupils who encounter difficulties in the cognitive, academic, professional, social and emotional areas.

When teachers or families notice that a student may have difficulties in one or more of these areas, we follow the following plan of action:

  • Meeting with parents to detect the problem.
  • Psycho-pedagogical evaluation of the pupil.
  • Identification of the specific educational needs.
  • Proposal of the action plan with the strategies and duration.
  • Implementation of the proposal and monitoring of the pupil.

We consider the participation of the family to be fundamental in each of the steps as unconditional support for the pupil. Our aim is that the family not only knows what is happening, but also helps us to find the problem. Only in this way will we be able to achieve our objective: to help all those who study at the centre to overcome their difficulties.

Specific aspects worked on in the personalised guidance programme

Study techniques

These are taught both individually and in groups and to students from Year 4 to secondary school. The aim is for the student to acquire the necessary skills to be able to study independently and to optimise their time in order to achieve good academic results.

Vocational Guidance

In this case we have developed a specific programme called “GuideMe Academic Guidance Programme”, in which other teachers also participate, with which we help students to make the best decisions that will lead them to achieve their professional goals.

Diversity Guidance

At Elian’s British School of La Nucía the atmosphere is international, as we welcome students of many different nationalities. In the process of adapting to a new language and culture, some may experience specific difficulties which we help them to cope with through our personalised orientation programme.

In the same way, students may experience challenges of all kinds due to different personal situations in which they find themselves and with this programme we will always be there to help them.

Guidance for parents

Transparency with families is one of our strongest values. Whenever they want and need it, the school’s educational psychologist will be available to answer any questions or concerns about their child’s personal, academic or social development.

When is it time to attend the personalised guidance programme?

The personalised guidance programme is initiated when the student’s performance is observed to be suffering, when negative social or emotional changes occur or when learning difficulties are detected.
