Educational excellence
Elian’s British School La Nucía in Alicante is a British school for children from 1 to 18 years old. The school is in a breathtaking mountain setting on the Costa Blanca overlooking the Mediterranean sea.
It is an international school belonging to the Spanish-based International Education Partnership (IEP) with a catchment area that stretches from Alicante to beyond Benissa. To facilitate access for our students, we have four bus services from Villajoyosa, Benidorm – Levante, Calpe and San Juan – Campello.
Sharing teaching resources, educational experiences, and good practice between the different IEP schools is one of the great advantages of belonging to an educational group. Students and staff alike get the benefit of a lively and constantly evolving learning process.
The pillars of our education: #towards
With a profile of more than 48% international students at Elian’s, and in line with our educational vision, we are in the process of obtaining authorisation to deliver the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). This will allow us to respond more flexibly to the personal and academic needs of our Sixth Form students, both in the present and the future.
To augment our vision of an outstanding English education, we have incorporated four areas of aspiration and development: #TowardsSkills #TowardsTalent #TowardsInnovation and #TowardsExcellence. With these, we stimulate our pupils’ continuing desire to learn and their eagerness to discover more about themselves and what they are capable of.
Elian’s: IB candidate school (DIPLOMA)
While we continue to be proud of our identity as a British school, Elian’s is also a candidate to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, with the intention of incorporating the IB Diploma Programme in 2023-2024. This will expand our global approach to education for pupils in their baccalaureate years (sixth form).
At Elian’s, we are constantly exploring the most innovative ways to use digital technology, which offers cutting-edge forms of communication, and exciting opportunities for collaborations between pupils, teachers and families. Digitalisation also provides a platform to develop an up-to-date skillset, while allowing for extra forms of differentiation (catering to individuals’ diverse needs). What’s more, we are using it to introduce progressive evaluation methods, which integrate with real-world environments of work and training.
As part of our multidisciplinary approach, we embrace technology, art and sport. We value the development of creativity, self-esteem and the capacity for personal expression in all its various forms. Discovery and research are part of a learning environment in which our students are encouraged to design their own solutions to the challenges they encounter.
We believe in people-based learning, where critical thinking is prized and leadership skills are valued. Our Student Council is a clear example of our students being active agents in their community by helping to organise the school’s social action plan. In the Secondary and Baccalaureate stages, small classes allow us to develop a close rapport with individual students, leading to a more precise evaluation of their abilities and needs.
We see the teacher’s role as a facilitator who enables pupils to establish connections between different subject areas, reflectively analysing and applying the knowledge acquired, so they can reach conclusions through their own reasoning.
In the last year, we have completed the renovation of spaces for Science, Art, Design, and Music. This includes upgrading our four science laboratories to provide ample space and equipment for hands-on experimentation and scientific research.
Our commitment to scientific inquiry and artistic expression is complemented by the sports facilities available to our pupils at Elian’s British School La Nucía. Our students make regular use of the artificial grass pitch; tennis courts; basketball courts; and outdoor swimming pool. These are in addition to areas dedicated to the Taekwondo and Ping-Pong clubs and our newly installed beach volleyball court.
We intend to continue adding to our sports facilities every year. Meanwhile, through our agreement with Asociación Tenis Ferrer (ATF) we offer a bespoke option to students combining high performance sport with an academic timetable that prepares them to access university with a high probability of success.
The ATF students offer an inspiring example to their peers of discipline, effort and fortitude. They are the driving force behind this initiative, which is already part of the school’s educational model and which we intend to continue expanding to other elite sports clubs.
Elliance programme. Educational excellence
As we grow as a school, it has never been more important to have input from all members of our community: families, pupils and staff. We have launched our Elliance Programme to create connections and partnership agreements within our school community to the benefit of all.
Our admissions process is open all year round. For more information, go to: Admissions & Fees | Elian’s British School of La Nucía (iepgroup.es)
