We have implemented the Early Years educational model for children from 3 to 5 years old. This stage is for children aged from 1 to 5 years old. There are four divisions: Pre-1 (1 to 2 year-olds), Pre-2 (2 to 3 year-olds), Nursery (3 to 4 year-olds) and Reception (4 to 5 year-olds).
At Elian’s British School of La Nucía we believe that if our students are to achieve excellence in English, it is important they start practising from an early age through an education with full linguistic immersion in the language. In this way, our students stand to benefit from the broad spectrum of opportunities available to individuals with a proficiency in English.
Linguistic immersion in English: our hallmark
Our aim at Elian’s British School of La Nucía is for every pupil, who spends all or part of their academic life in our environment, to become a confident communicator in English.
This is achieved by the whole school day being spent immersed in an English-speaking environment, enabling our students to develop naturally in English and to be able to express themselves like native speakers.
This linguistic immersion in English is our core principle, alongside exceptional learning, mental and physical wellbeing and inspiring surroundings. For this reason, we are currently in the process of becoming an IB (International Baccalaureate) school, which recognises an educational environment that discovers and develops the best in each pupil and achieves general excellence. Being an IB world school also places us in an international educational community of more than 5,000 schools that seek to create a better world driven by respect, peace and understanding.
Our values: what it’s like to learn in the Early Years stage of a language immersion school
Language immersion in English is one of the cornerstones of our school’s education, but it is not the only one. In Early Years, as in all the other stages, an Elian’s education is based on solid values, so the children who learn with us acquire an important blend of academic and personal benefits:
- Well-being: the emotional well-being of our pupils is our priority. We strive to ensure they are happy and confident individuals. Therefore, the atmosphere at our school is warm and familiar so they feel at home.
- Comfort: the physical environment in which a child develops is key to their learning. For this reason, we ensure our classrooms are spacious, bright, welcoming and accessible to all.
- Versatility: in the first years of a child’s life, learning is structured in different areas to ensure development is as complete as possible.
- Transparency: families are an essential part of the school so there will always be fluid, complete and open communication between all members of the teaching staff and parents.
- Emotional intelligence: in these early stages we help children develop the social skills they need to become responsible adults.
Why English needs to be integrated from the beginning
Immersing children in English from an early age will help them learn the language more quickly, easily and accurately, giving them the best chance to become fully bilingual adults.
In addition, learning a second language in childhood offers a range of secondary benefits:
- Increased ability to concentrate.
- Improved memory.
- Increased linguistic assurance and self-confidence.
